In fotofever 2018 Chris Boïcos Fine Arts is reserving its booth exclusively to the work of Tina Merandon, one of the finest women photographers currently working in France.

Tina Merandon (born 1963) is a Paris-based photographer known for her portraits - notably the series (Vertigo 2007) of French politicians, from François Hollande to Marine Le Pen, photographed for Le Monde - and her work on the moving body exhibited in many venues and published in numerous reviews, catalogs and newspapers since 2000.

Confrontation with the « other » is a recurring theme in the photography of Tina Merandon.
In many of her series she portrays embracing bodies locked in physical struggle as in the Lutteurs (2017) amorous struggle - Nus (2005-06) - sexual sublimation - Démons (2018) - or psychological binds as in Family (2018). For Tina, the body is a vehicle of expression and an object of beauty. Yet she does not simply capture its superficial sensuality or sexiness. She is interested in its deeper vitality - the yearning, violence, attraction, affection and despair the moving bodies of women, men and children are capable of expressing in their relationships with each other. In her choreographies with her models she carefully guides them towards this expressivity, capturing the often spontaneous and unscripted movements and eruptions of her living material.

Démons n°7 2018 Color photography, Impression Prestige - Fine Art - Ink jet on gloss art fibre Harman 300g, 60x76 cm, Edition of 12.

In an era of synthetic beauty production, digital alteration of imagery, and increasingly artificial fashion photography, Merandon’s handling of her models remains real, physical and profoundly human.

Démons n°2 2018 Color photography, Impression Prestige - Fine Art - ink jet on gloss art fibre Harman 300g, 60x76 cm, Edition of 12.

Her interest in flying birds - turtledoves and hawks - compliments and contrasts with her vision of the human body. By virtue of their speed, lightness and ability for flight, the birds represent a capacity for escape and freedom that the earthbound human bodies often seek – as in the Petites danseuses (2017) – but can seldom achieve.
